School counsellor and wellbeing officer services
Our School Counsellor and Wellbeing Officer are members of the school Learning Support Team (LST).
At Wattle Grove Public School, we have a dedicated Learning Support Team that works collaboratively to identify and support the diverse needs of our students. A teacher may refer a student to the team when additional support is needed to enhance learning and wellbeing.
Parents and carers are also welcome to refer their child to the Learning Support Team after conversation with the class teacher. This responsive process ensures that every student has access to the right support at the right time.
The school counsellor:
- provides counselling to students
- works in consultation with the principal, school executive, staff and student support services to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes and implement current departmental priorities
- works collaboratively with learning and support teams, parents and carers, and other agencies, to develop appropriate school-based support for students
- administers cognitive, social, emotional and behavioural assessment of students, reports on the results of assessments and interventions and collaborates to improve learning and wellbeing outcomes
- contributes to the social, emotional, and academic development of students by participating in student learning and wellbeing teams
- assists in the planning, development and review of Personalised Learning and Support Plans for students with disability and learning support needs
- responds as part of a team to schools experiencing serious incidents
- supports schools and students with complex behavioural needs
- refers students and/or their families and carers to other agencies that will support the development of student health and wellbeing.
School counselling is confidential.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
At our school, we proudly implement Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL), a comprehensive whole-school framework dedicated to creating a positive, safe, and respectful environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed and flourish. Through a collaborative effort involving staff, students, and families, we establish clear, consistent behavioural expectations that are explicitly taught and reinforced across all areas of school life. Together, we are committed to empowering students to develop the skills and attitudes necessary for lifelong success.
